Mazarun Character Sheet for Contest

Name: Mazarun Zothyrr.
Age: In his eighties – looks the equivalent of a human of eighteen.
Species: Drow.
Height: 5'5".
Eyes: Red.
Hair: White.
Skin: Jet-black.
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral.
Class: Fighter 6/Wizard 2/Warblade 2.

Appearance: Mazarun has a slim build, wiry of muscle rather than bulky. His face is sharp-featured, and delicate to the point of seeming almost feminine, with high cheekbones, a high forehead, and a pointed chin. Thin brows rise upward somewhat at the outer ends, over long-lashed red eyes, tilted upward at the corners in the elven fashion. His face is framed by two locks of hair that reach his collar-bones in length, while the rest of his hair comes to his waist. His back is marked by thin scars, hard to see from any great distance – lines, all at different diagonal, vertical and horizontal angles, always in parallel pairs – the marks of a snake-headed whip.
Gear: Mazarun tends to dress well, when possible, though the styles of clothing vary widely. He uses a rapier and a hand crossbow, and carries a dagger or two for emergencies.

Personality: To call Mazarun acerbic would be to drastically understate matters. He is sarcastic, sardonic, and occasionally outright abrasive. He's always ready with some snarky comment with which to greet blatant idiocy or absurd situations. This sarcasm, however, covers the tension of someone so used to people lashing out at him that he'll cause it deliberately, just to have some measure of control over when they do so. Situations in which snark would be too dangerous tend to reduce him to sullen silence.
In contrast, he can also muster up a surprising amount of charm if he wants to, and tends to deploy this charm around people he finds attractive. (And there are a lot of those – he loves beauty in men and women both, and can see beauty in some surprising people.)
Beneath these things, however, he is a loyal person, who'll stick by someone he cares for until the bitter end. He dislikes the idea of hurting the helpless, and those rare people who treat him kindly tend to disarm his wariness, gain his trust, and discover an underlayer of kind-heartedness not yet entirely worn away.

History: Mazarun was born the youngest child of House Zothyrr, in Menzoberranzan – the fourth son, and third living, since the thirdborn son was sacrificed as per custom. While in the early years, he had some help from the less sadistic of his kin, it began to fall apart once he witnessed his father's final punishment for speaking out blasphemously, just once. It left a lesson engraved in his mind - keep your head down and don't make trouble.
He trained at Melee-Magthere, and from there moved on to the other duties of a drow warrior, gradually losing both his childhood shreds of ethics and whatever courage might have permitted him to flee. However, errands for his family and other such excuses have let him travel, and one other drow, his dearest and most trusted friend Rantel Gode'zynge, has given him the support he's needed to stay relatively sane. He welcomes time away from home as an escape from the reach of two vicious and sadistic half-siblings, the priestess Vedenzri and house captain Elkalafein, who look upon their youngest brother as a very convenient target.
Only time will tell whether Mazarun becomes just another cold and deadly killer in a city of killers, or whether he finds a different path.
